Sweets for My Sweets

We love it when our vacation coincides with the other Rutledges being in town. Ralph and Karen are so dear to us! Of course, they take it upon themselves to spoil all of us rotten, Marshall and Shaylen are no exception.

Today, Karen took it upon herself to take the kids down to Edmonds and treat them to sweets from the candy shop. How can you possibly decide?!?!

After the candy shop, we headed over to the beach to let the kids get out some of their cooped up energy.

A Fishy Post

On our day out with Mom & Dad J, we got taken to all kinds of places were never have been to before. Like the locks and the fish ladders. They were fascinating.

After we were all done, we took the kids over to a nearby park. The pictures make it seem as if the ocean is glittering with gold!

We thoroughly enjoyed this lovely day out with Mom & Dad J. They rented a lovely little boat and we drove around for quite a bit. The kids even got to steer for a while. Seattle is so lovely and the kids had a blast!

Keepin' Grandma Off the Roof

I love Taigen's Grandma. Well, actually she is my grandma too now, I'm just not blood related. One of the greatest perks of marrying into Taigen's family was gaining Grandma. She's a gem and I absolutely ADORE her.

One of the things Grandma loves to do is "putter around the yard." I love hearing about what she does and I'm thankful that she enjoys getting outside and doing stuff.

While we were in WA, she mentioned that "they" took her ladder away. "They" was most likely dear Uncle Ralph or my wonderful mother in law, Sherry. It wasn't because they don't love her and don't want her to putter around, they just want to keep Grandma safe. Knowing Grandma, there is a chance that she would use it to get up on the roof to blow off pine needles or clean the gutters. Yes. I said it. GUTTERS. Don't mess with Grandma. She definitely could do it...we just don't want her to have to. She might be XX years old, but she is super-active, mentally alert and VERY much young at heart.

So, since "they" took her ladder away (which actually...there is one in her garage...I think they just kindly asked her to NOT use it), Taigen climbed up on the roof and blew off the pine needles while we were there.

And while Taigen was busy working up on the roof, two munchkins I know were enjoying being techno-potatoes! (Reality is going to hit REALLY hard when we go back.)

Seattle Science Center

Today we decided to go and do some fun stuff while Sherry was at work. We looked around online and decided upon the Seattle Science Center. There are so many things to see and do that it would take an entire day to do it all...maybe more!

We started off by entering the dinosaur area.

 

From there we entered the space exhibit. This was really neat because we are studying astronomy this year in our Science class. I think the kids' favorite was the Black Hole lecture (planetarium) and the scale showing how much you weigh on different planets. I think we'll use that idea for our homeschool science fair later on this year!

Next we went into what I'm going to call the Creepy Crawly Exhibit. We were greeted by a lady holding a ginormous beetle. Ewwww! I did like the butterfly room. The colors on them were gorgeous!

We had some time to kill after this until we were to make our show at the IMAX for the polar bear show (3D). We found some mind puzzles in a large exhibit and decided to sit down and try our hand at them. 

From here we went into the IMAX theatre. I haven't been in one of these for years (I think the last time was when I was dating Taigen!), and the kids had never been. We saw a film in 3D on polar bears and the ice in the frozen arctic. It was really cool! (Sorry...pun intended!)

 

After this there was more exploring and discovering and fun until we decided it was time to go home.
